Some Merrill brokers have been offered what they refer to as "zilch"
(less than $1,000,000) to stay on board the combined team at Bank of
America, while those who have been offered bonuses - 50 percent of
the work force - represent nearly 80 percent of Merrill's broker
business.
This past week ending October 31, 2008, along with 35 additional
closures at GM and Ford's chief suppliers, about 149,000 hourly and
salaried jobs have been eliminated.

Some where, some how, don't you feel we have just been had?

Of the $250 billion, which will come from the $700 billion bailout
approved by Congress, half is to be injected into nine big banks,
including Citigroup, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and
JPMorgan Chase, officials said. The other half is to go to smaller
banks and thrifts. The investments will be structured so that the
government can benefit from a rebound in the banks’ fortunes.

American Idol Palin
Somebody better do something quick cause this is slipping away.
A few days ago, everyone was stunned at Senator McCain's
selection for VP, now they are stunned for another reason... her
success.
Last nights evening news used footage of Governor Palin addressing a
large audience while Senator Obama was fumbling with note cards at a
town hall meeting.
Governor Palin is kind of the 'American Idol" candidate, after one
look the audience votes and with only a few weeks left in the race,
the audience may not look again. Senator Obama has to do
something bold to regain the initiative.

Thomas Jefferson is rolling over in his grave.
It
is so uncomfortable, this whole faith forum McCain and Obama just
went through. Who agreed to this thing? Separation
of Church and State and the first forum out of the box our
candidates for President take a heartfelt grilling from some
California Evangelist? Who agreed to this?
The whole thing awful and un-American.
The Real Problem with Oil Prices and Boone Pickens
August 4, 2008 RedZoneReport
Senator Obama's call for using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)
to lower the price of gas is a little too pandering even for the
RedZoneReport. The SPR equates to 33 days of oil at current
daily US consumption levels of 21 million barrels a day and is far
to short of supply manage the price of gas for any great length of
time, and it sends the worst possible message the energy crisis is
not real. Same with off shore drilling. It only delays
the inevitable.
The problem with the economics
of conservation is one day oil is $140 bb which makes a whole range
of energy savings devices cost effective, but the next day oil is
$110 and those same devices are not so cost effective?

Boone Pickens thinks the answer is painting the Midwest and mountain
basins with these wind mills. Maybe he's right, but hope not.
How sad to explain to your grand kids what the Great Plains were
like before wind generators?
The answer
has to be in the price of oil. Stabilize it price at a high
enough figure to encourage alternatives, or otherwise the U.S. will
be dancing to a foreign tune for years to come.
Senator McCain ought to be ashamed.
August 1, 2009 RedZoneReport
Just ask Harold Ford. McCain’s latest
campaign commercial comparing Paris Hilton and Britney
Spears with Senator Obama’s popularity is racist at its most
base level. White women and black men; that’s the message this
commercial is projecting beneath everything else. Think not? Ask
Congressman Harold Ford. In his Senate race last cycle in
Tennessee, attack ads depicted a series of young, white women
speaking affectionately about Congressman Ford, a black man. In
one ad a young woman coos.. "Call me, Harold." Another tactic,
and one I’m sure we will see utilized this year, African drums beat
in the background when ever Congressman Ford’s name is mentioned.
But the best line was Ford’s white opponent’s tag line in the race,
"Bob Coker, he’s one of us." Coker went on to win the Senate
race amidst cries of blatant racist tactics, but a win is win in
this business.
"Hide the women, a black man has been made sheriff,"
was a line from the movie Blazing Saddles. Conservatives operate on
fear, and a black guy running off with their women folk is
apparently one of their biggest nightmares. Senator McCain
ought to be ashamed.
Senator Obama would be only the third Senator in
history to be elected directly from the Senate to the White House.
July 29, 2008 RedZoneReport
Reports last night that Senator Obama has Virginia Governor Tim
Kaine, and Senators Biden and Bayh on his short list for VP are
puzzling. Why would the ticket need another Senator? The
Governor maybe
,
but the Senators bring little to the table. If he wants
Biden's foreign policy experience, make him Secretary of State.
As VP, Biden would have little input on foreign policy except attend
funerals. And what does Senator Bayh
add? Indiana? Maybe. Bush won Indiana 60% in 2004.
There was also talk of Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, but if
the country is going to have a problem accepting a man of color as
President, I don't see complicating it with Kathleen on the ticket.
Time to move on Senator
July 27, 2008 RedZoneReport:

While Senator McCain awaits the backlash of Senator Obama's trip
abroad, he continues to focus on the Iraqi troop surge and or
withdrawal time table. Apparently he feels comfortable talking
about Iraq and only Iraq.
The U. S. economy is going to hell in a hand basket and all he can
talk about is Iraq. He would "rather lose the election, than
lose the war." That was a good line six months ago, but it has
become stale.
"McCain waits for fallout of Obama trip abroad"
July 25, 2008 RedZoneReport:
The McCain campaign reported this morning there will
be a "huge backlash" from Senator Obama's trip abroad, especially
his speech to 200,000 Germans yesterday. This McCain camp just
gets more bizarre everyday. Senator Obama's turn out yesterday
was mostly a reflection of a European country disgusted with the
current American President and hoping for some new leadership on the
world stage.

Senator McCain waiting for backlash for Obama's trip to Germany.
Still waiting.
Governor Ed Rendell Obama's choice for VP.
July 15, 2008, RedZoneReport
This
is a very good reason Governor Ed Rendell would be
very good on Senator Obama's ticket.. The
infrastructure. If ever there was an essential, but
non glamorous job that has to be done, a Vice President
could devote himself to the crumbling infrastructure of the
Country.
Governor Rendell as he accepted leadership of the National
Governors Association.
"Now is the time, especially when interest rates are low,
that we can repair the nation's infrastructure for far less
than it will cost five or ten years from now," Rendell said,
speaking at the Westin Philadelphia."
Rendell named head of Nat‘l Governors Association
By Thomas Fitzgerald
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER July 14, 2008
Pennsylvania Gov. Rendell became chairman of the
National Governors Association today and said he
would lead the historically powerful organization on
a campaign for greater spending on the nation's
infrastructure.
"It's not the sexiest of issues but
in many ways it's as important as any single thing
we can do," Rendell said, arguing that the U.S.
risks becoming a third-rate economic power if it
does not dramatically improve roads, bridges and
railroads.
In addition to lobbying Congress and
the next administration for capital spending,
Rendell said the NGA should consider "public private
partnerships" and tolls to help maintain highways.
"Now is the time, especially when
interest rates are low, that we can repair the
nation's infrastructure for far less than it will
cost five or ten years from now," Rendell said,
speaking at the Westin Philadelphia.

July 3, 2008 RedZoneReport
Many RedZone readers have written to say, 'Obama will never choose
Ed Rendell for VP because he's Jewish.' To this we say
nonsense. America is about to elect a man of color President.
Ed Rendell brings a lot more than anything his faith would take away
from the ticket. Beside, America is in a 'What the hell?' kind
of mood. Anything to get away from the policies of the current
White House.

While we're at it, I thought General Clark had a point about the
national war hero, Senator John McCann. Being shot down and
held prisoner of war does little to qualify McCain as experienced in
foreign policy. In fact, his post-traumatic stress from his
wars days may so embitter his outlook on foreign policy it makes him
dangerous.
June 28, 2008 RedZoneReport:
Few possibilities for Senator Obama's choice for Vice President
would bring as much to the table as Governor Ed Rendell of
Pennsylvania.
The former District Attorney, two term
Mayor of Philadelphia, past Chairman of the National Democratic
Party, Chairman of Governors Association, re-elected by landslide
proportions, Governor of the third most rural state in America, wife
a Federal Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals.. Governor Rendell
would make the ticket more appealing to the conservative, white
Clinton base.
Governor Rendell is close to the Clintons but more importantly his domestic experience.. big cities and
big states would help the ticket immensely.

Clinton Influences
04/19/2010
RedZoneReport: Todd Purdum, National Editor Vanity Fair, wrote an
article about Bill Clinton in the magazine this week,
June 2, 2008. Mr. Purdam felt readers need to know who
carries the former President’s bags and flips the lights on at
the Harlem office.
Then Purdam suggests the former President is on painkillers (the
“dry

reference.) Purdam thinks Clinton was acting odd
on the campaign trail recently. Whatever.

The thing the article missed is who was Clinton's influence?
Bag handlers, rich guys, Bruce Lindsey, David Leopoulos,
Vince Foster?
Other Presidents:
President Roosevelt…
Sidney Hellman

President Truman Bess Truman
President Eisenhower Mamie Eisenhower,
Sherman Adams
President Kennedy Joe Kennedy, Dave

Dual til' Denver
RedZoneReport, April 14, 2008:
The Nation is following the drama of the Democratic Party
and from the perspective of public interest, the Democratic
primary for President in 2008 is the greatest in history..
certainly the largest audience following the drama all the
way to Denver..
The
Party has two excellent candidates for president and as far
as I am concerned it can go all the way to Denver.
Why not? This is not 1968 where the
Mayor of Denver is about to set dogs on demonstrators. This is
a Party with two excellent candidates for President, and
when the time comes to concede the nomination I believe one
of these Americans will.
Senators Clinton and Obama give McCain a
third of the stage and a 10th of political money.
Democrats are raising large sums of money
from small contributors, we have a black man and a women in
contention for leadership of the Party, what's not to like.
Relax.

Apparently the
Revolution is here.
The disparity
in cash and future fundraising ability is summed up here:
Senator Barak
Obama 230,000 contributors
less than 3% maxed out. $30 million/month
Senator
Hillary Clinton 35,000 contributors more than 75% maxed.
It was good
while it lasted.

McGovern rules
I do not believe there is a knock out punch left in the
Democratic primary system for either HRC or
Senator Obama.
Now there are enough delegates in all camps (including Edwards) with a personal interest in
going to Denver. Arrangements have been made, so to speak.
So this is going to Convention.
But let me tell you this, one of the flaws of the
McGovern rules are the super delegates. I do not believe
uncommitted super delegates (20%) will withstand a challenge
from the floor of an evenly divided convention. It goes against
the very spirit of the McGovern rules.
Now everyone has an interest in Denver.
